This position is responsible for the development, training, and direct oversight of the Small Business Administration (SBA) lending for the bank.  This position initiates and develops new business relationships using approved products of the Small Business Administration and ensures business development and relationship management activities align with sales goals and strategies.  Ensures the portfolio administration and risk management of each client relationship complies with established credit policy, procedure, and business strategy, as well as regulatory guidelines.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to):

  • Expand the Bank’s portfolio to existing and new customers through the utilization of SBA’s 7(a), 504, and Express loan programs.
  • Responsible for training and development of executives, loan officers, and branches on SBA loan solutions.
  • Provides advice and guidance to team members on commercial lending and deposit gathering practices using the products and procedures granted by the Small Business Administration; ensures that the actions of all team members adhere to bank policy.
  • Collects and analyzes financial data, as well as any other relevant data, to determine the general creditworthiness of the prospect and the merits of the loan request.
  • Establishes and negotiates the terms under which credit will be extended, including the costs, repayment method and schedule, and collateral requirements.
  • Overall responsibility for the preparation and execution of all relevant SBA documents, including uploading and submitting all of the completed documents.
  • Addresses SBA concerns or questions on submitted files.
  • Monitors loan repayment activities.
  • Ensures that the Bank remains in compliance with the SBA’s Standard Operation Procedures as well as internal lending policies and procedures.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures to package and sell SBA guaranteed portions of loans on the secondary market.
  • Follow-up with all prospects and customers in a consistent and timely manner;
  • Establish and maintain accurate and timely records of activities and pipeline of new business development efforts;
  • Participate in monthly business development meetings to discuss plans, results, how to partner with board members or other associates to increase business, etc.;
  • Maintain current awareness and understanding of appropriate banking laws, regulations, internal policies and procedures;
  • Professionally represent the bank at all times, including at various civic and community events and industry-specific functions to ensure a positive image for the bank; and
  • Other projects as assigned.
  • This position is expected to understand the significant control procedures and the compliance policies related to day-to-day job duties. All control procedures that this position has responsibility for accomplishing, as well as those for which it has direct oversight, will be accomplished according to policies and procedures.  This position is responsible for understanding and following all federal and regulatory policies, and is responsible for the compliance of all direct reports.  This position is responsible for disclosing to the Asset-Liability Committee all commitments, contracts or other agreements that it enters into or changes, or that it may be aware of from other areas of the company. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

REQUIREMENTS FOR POSITION: 

  • Minimum five years commercial/business banking experience, of which at least two years dedicated to SBA lending
  • Previous underwriting experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Specific knowledge of all loan products and offerings backed by the SBA, and knowledge of required policies and procedures to sell guaranteed loans in the secondary market
  • Proficient with Word and Excel
  • Ability to work under critical time constraints
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to network to build and cultivate profitable relationships
  • Ability to proactively identify and capitalize on business development opportunities
  • Successful negotiation and deal management experience
  • Strong organizational, leadership and public speaking skills
