The Independent Living Coordinator (IL Coordinator) is responsible for providing supervision and care for resident children currently displaced from their home environment and living in a residential setting. Open Door’s IL Coordinator helps provide a safe and supportive environment, while overseeing and facilitating activities associated with Independent Living skills.
Open Door is looking for a candidate to help oversee and maintain our Independent Living program and uphold standards set by the Indiana Department of Child Services. The IL Coordinator would be responsible for facilitating state required assessments and implementing individual services accordingly. The IL Coordinator connects with all youth in care through day to day programming, individual work, and facilitation of residential groups.

Hours: 8a-4p, Monday-Friday, this position participates in an on-call rotation and responds to crisis situations.
Pay: $40,081/ annually
The ideal candidates will take pride in their work with the following responsibilities:
- Administers Ansel-Casey Life Skills Assessments to required youth.
- Provide individual sessions with youth to set IL goals and work with them to achieve goals/skills
- Collects and Inputs youth data in multiple databases
- Ensures all Independent Living Standards are upheld and recorded per Department of Child Services Standards.
- Facilitates activities for the youth on and off campus.
- Facilitates curriculum based groups and instruction with youth on a regular basis.
- Gains complete knowledge of Trauma-Informed Treatment: The Restorative Approach.
- Familiarize new direct care staff with Trauma-Informed Care and Restorative principles and practices.
- Work with Treatment Team to introduce Trauma-Informed language and activities into the schedule and environment.
- Check in with staff who facilitate weekly community group with youth.
- Welcome and complete intakes for new residents, and discharge residents as outlined in policies and procedures.
- Get to know the lives and circumstances of our residents, and use this to build therapeutic, individualized relationships with residents.
- Interacts with residents, modeling and promoting positive, appropriate behavior and boundaries.
- Supervise and mentor residents in various situations and a variety of daily activities. This may include transportation to work, appointments, court hearings, etc. Along with dispensing medication per Physician’s orders, assistance with skills for independent living, overseeing outings and special activities and many more.
- Regularly and professionally complete documentation on each resident’s daily progress note, contacts with family and the staff log.
- Oversee and encourage resident’s contact with family including phone calls and personal visits
- Attend staff meetings and trainings and provide open communication and suggestions for improvements.
- Communicate regularly and openly with supervisors and fellow staff regarding policies, processes, residents’ behavior, etc.
- Communicates effectively and professionally with parents, other service providers, fellow staff, and other adults.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Candidate Requirements:
- Applicants must be 21 years old. Bachelor’s Degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or related field.
- Upon hire, candidates must complete employee file requirements (outlined by the Office Manager) and must obtain a CPR & First Aid Certification, which will both be provided by the organization.
