Job Title: Executive Director & Chief Entrepreneurship Officer

Position Overview

As the Executive Director of Maker 13, this community leader will take on a visionary and strategic leadership role, responsible for driving the organization's growth, sustainability, and operations. This position involves overseeing day-to-day operations, empowering the team, and fostering community collaborations while ensuring Maker 13 becomes a leading force in supporting entrepreneurs, makers, and innovation within the local community.

This position involves overseeing day-to-day operations, empowering the team, and fostering community collaborations while ensuring Maker13 becomes a leading force in supporting entrepreneurs, makers and artists, STEM/STEAM educational programming, and a thriving local innovation ecosystem.

 

Key Responsibilities

  1. Membership and Membership Programs (30%)
  • Develop strategies to attract, retain, and engage members.
  • Oversee the membership management system and resolve member issues efficiently.
  • Design and implement member-focused workshops, programs, and events to enhance the overall experience.
  • Track membership metrics and continuously improve engagement.
  • Collaborate with the Operations Manager to deliver high-quality member services and resources.
  1. Student Engagement and Outreach (25%)
  • Expand Maker 13’s presence within educational institutions.
  • Develop partnerships with schools and colleges for hands-on learning experiences, particularly STEM-focused programs.
  • Coordinate outreach/logistics through Maker Mobile team, organize school visits and educational event, both on and offsite of Maker13 property for nonprofits, organizations, schools, and other community members 
  • Engage with educators, students, and parents to foster a supportive learning environment.
  1. Business, Community, Donor Development, and Entrepreneurship Support (30%)
  • Serve as the ambassador of Maker 13, building strong relationships with businesses, donors, foundations, and local government entities.
  • Identify and cultivate funding opportunities from corporate sponsors, donors, and grants to secure financial growth.
  • Ensure that Maker 13 delivers top-tier educational programs, mentoring, and resources for members.
  • Collaborate with the Board and founders to align strategies with Maker 13’s mission and vision.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, focusing on entrepreneurship and educational opportunities.
  1. Operational Oversight and Team Development (15%)
  • Oversee and support the Operations Manager in maintaining the equipment and makerspace, managing scheduling, and delivering excellent customer service.
  • Lead recruitment efforts to expand the team, ensuring financial and resource support for new hires.
  • Maintain financial oversight, including payroll, accounts payable, and budget management, alongside the Operations Manager.
  • Regularly present reports on membership, financials, and program success to the board of directors.
  • Manage contract pieces and product manufacturing for customers of Maker13 by reviewing inquiries, managing expectations, scheduling production/delivery, and completing payment terms

Qualifications

  • Proven leadership experience in membership management, community outreach, and business development.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build lasting relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Organizational and project management expertise, with the ability to streamline and prioritize effectively.
  • Fundraising experience, including sponsorship acquisition and grant management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, membership management software, and knowledge of QuickBooks (or similar accounting software) is a plus.
  • Passion for maker culture, innovation, entrepreneurship, and community engagement.
