This position is responsible for balancing Correspondent Bank Accounts, balancing General Ledger and internal bank accounts, processing wire transfers, preparing 1099 information for vendor payments for the Bank and First Capital, backup for paying bills and preparing entries and adjustments to general ledger accounts and various assigned accounts.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

  • Pays holding company (First Capital) bills on the Accounts Payable System.
  • Balances correspondent account – FHLB (CMS and TIME), Stock Yards, ICBB, and Federal Reserve and clears outstanding items.
  • Prepare 1099 information for vendor payments and forward to E-banking for processing.   Complete and report 1099’s for First Capital, Inc.
  • Daily GL ticket review.
  • Receives and completes wire transfers according to policy.
  • Prepares payroll entries each pay period.
  • Balances payroll deduction GL accounts.
  • Prepares keyons for General Ledger history.
  • Orders currency from Fed to our virtual vault at Brinks and monitors the virtual vault balances.
  • Assists CFO and/or Controller with transferring funds needed to manage the cash position of the bank.
  • Assists Controller in completing the Call Report.
  • Responsible for audit safekeeping of Bonds with FHLB.
  • Keeps Policies and Procedures up to date for the Accounting department.
  • Assists Accounting personnel when needed to help resolve issues and outages.
  • Backup for Controller when needed
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies in assigned accounts promptly through the recommendation of necessary adjustment transactions.
  • Obtain approval for adjustment transactions from supervisor prior to processing.
  • Complete inquiries/requests in a timely fashion.
  • Is aware of segregation of duties and adheres to bank established policies.
  • Responsible for adherence to bank’s operational compliance and security policies and applicable state and federal laws.
  • Knowledge and understanding of, and adherence to, the Bank’s Code of Conduct
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Chief Financial Officer or Controller.
  • Is committed to on-going professional development and actively participates and advocates the Bank’s training and development programs and commitment to learning
  • This position is expected to understand the significant control procedures and the compliance policies related to day-to-day job duties.  All control procedures that this position has responsibility for accomplishing, as well as those for which it has direct oversight, will be accomplished according to policies and procedures.  This position is responsible for understanding and following all federal and regulatory policies, and is responsible for the compliance of all direct reports.  This position is responsible for disclosing to the Asset-Liability Committee all commitments, contracts or other agreements that it enters into or changes, or that it may be aware of from other areas of the company. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field or equivalent experience required
  • Have an accounting and/or finance background
  • Presents a professional image in dealing with customers, interdepartmental and external representatives.
  • Strong attention to detail, good judgment and decision making skills.
  • Have a high degree of interpersonal skills, attitude, judgment, communication and the ability to effectively interact with customers and employees.
  • Ability to exercise personal and professional responsibility and work with limited direction.
  • Must be able to use tact and diplomacy and communicate effectively via telephone, letters, personal contact, etc.
  • Requires a general knowledge of bank products, services, policies, operational procedures, and various departmental policies
  • Ability to use office equipment, including personal computers (basic e-mail, Excel, Word and Windows), and bank systems.
  • Able to work in a team environment.
